Ledcrieff & Lairds Report – 2017 Season Start

FishingReport (1)

It has been a busy few weeks at the the lochs with the upgrade works well under way.

Th new Jetty design at the bottom bay

On Ledcrieff, we have installed 6 new wide Jetties around the loch to replace the current ones that were ‘tired’ to say the least. One of the Jetties has been installed in the top corner near the bench as this area has been missing a jetty for a good few years and given that this area is a hot spot, we thought it best.

Out with the old and in with the new

Out with the old and in with the new

The two disabled Jetties to the left of the boat mooring are to be extended by 2-3 foot and will be complete over the next few weeks.

The path around the bottom bay is to be upgraded also with the two spawning burns flowing in to be covered by a wooden walkway/bridge. The structure is already built and just needs installation.

Lairds Loch jetties about to be replaced

Lairds Loch has been a slight headache to say the least given the time it has taken to seek permission to carry out the repairs and upgraded. I am please to say that after several months, I finally received written approval from SNH giving us the green light to commence the works. We will also be upgrading the track up to the loch which we have cleared last year, the plan is to clear the track through the second gate to the point where that path officially starts in order to have vehicular access (almost) to the boat moorings and hut.

For those who have been fishing, Ledcrieff has been fishing exceptionally well with buzzers taking good amounts of fish. When the days has been spring like, the rises have been exceptional for this time of year, although tempting them has been a different matter. The loch is full of fish and for those looking to catch some of these large trout averaging 3.5lb there has never been a better time.

Those fishing bait over at Lairds have been picking away, rainbow trout and roach have been showing up in the catches but not in great numbers as the loch is being lightly fished. Once we get the works completed and Lairds Loch open in earnest, i’ll post another report n here. Keep and eye on the facebook page to progress on this matter.

With the clocks going forward this weekend, we will be open right til dark. If you are planning on coming up midweek, drop an email to info@ledcrieff.co.uk or phone Paul at the loch on 07720 194820.

As always, for those wanting to try their hand at fly fishing, we offer coaching (booking required) and we also do group bookings where we will throw in the BBQ and a photographer. Fire me an email at info@ledcrieff.co.uk for full details.

Remember, we are open ’til dark 7 days a week all year round.

See you on the water,

Tight Lines!!
