17 Oct Ledcrieff Loch Fishing Report – w/e 16th October 2016
Fish remain very active despite relentless easterly wind!!
Talk about a persistent wind!! The easterly that has been blowing over the last week has not deterred the hardy anglers out on Ledcrieff. Those who did venture out have done well with plenty Big Brown Trout up to 3lb showing up in the catches as well as plenty Rainbows up to 10lb along with Blues.
As always fish have been getting caught in numbers on a range of methods. Hot Head Damsels on intermediate / slow sink lines have been doing very well with plenty fish chasing right up to the boat. For those prepared to experiment, Hoppers are still taking decent numbers of fish, you do however have to target rising fish in the main as there are not the number in the upper water columns as there were few weeks back. Along the reeds on the road shore and the dam wall remain the hot spots with lots of browns still been taking on the opposite bank.
For those nipping across to Lairds Loch, there have been some decent catches. Robert Kippen landed and returned a stunning wild brown in the 1.5lb – 2lb range along with a few rainbows. Not a bad effort given the challenging conditions.
Whilst talking about Lairds, we are now making preparations to open up the road up top the gate with a new anglers car park being created. We are also in talks with SNH re the SSI status on the loch in order to start repair works sooner rather than later.
We are doing a big stocking this week Ledcrieff with an interesting variety of large trout, this will no doubt fire things up for the coming days and weekend. With the forecasted settled weather we expect to see the lochs busy this weekend. Lairds Loch will be stocked again in the coming weeks also to keep it topped up. When the repair works get going in earnest, we will be stocking the loch with around 1000 mixed stock fish for the 2017 season with weekly supplementary stocks. Stock size will average 2lb and will include fish up to 10lb. We are also considering topping up the coarse fish stocks in the loch given the popularity. The long terms view is to make Lairds Loch one of Scotland’s main any method fisheries and aimed at newcomers to the sport, family fishing & experienced anglers alike. We will be offering boat hire also for any method fishing which will no doubt be very popular.
Going forward every stocking will continue to consist of large rainbows, browns & blues averaging 4lb+ we will also continue to supplement the large head of 6lb – 10lb fish to keep things more than interesting.
For those wanting to try their hand at fly fishing, we offer coaching (booking required) and we also do group bookings where we will throw in the BBQ and a photographer. Fire me an email at email@example.com for full details.
Remember, we are open ’til dark 7 days a week.
